Schools Merge: Classical Christian Education Strengthens

SAVANNAH— Classical Christian education in Savannah grows stronger as Effingham Christian School (ECS) and The Habersham School merge to become one school on two campuses. The strategic move will provide a classical education option at two locations: The Gould Cottage in midtown Savannah (main campus) and Ephesus Church in Rincon (west campus).

"We have found the leadership of ECS to be like-minded on every point with The Habersham School,” said Chip Welch, President. “One of the reasons we sought this merger was to promote Classical Christian Education in Savannah, and through it our combined student body will double.”

The Habersham School’s main campus will be located at the recently acquired Gould Cottage, a well-known Savannah landmark in Ardsley Park, and will serve students from PreK(3) to 12th grade. The location at Ephesus Church (current home of ECS) will become The Habersham School West and serve students PreK through 5th grades. ECS students in grades 6-12 will join the Logic and Rhetoric schools at the new Gould Cottage campus this fall.

“The opportunity to merge with a school such as ECS and combine our efforts in educating students is quite exciting,” said Head of School Angie Copetillo. “As classical schools with parallel visions, The Habersham School and Effingham Christian School seek to promote the time-honored tradition of a Classical Christian Education in the larger Savannah community.”

Habersham seeks to restore education to its purest form, where students are taught to question, to investigate, to dialogue, and to create, combined with an unapologetic commitment to the truth of Christ. Habersham focuses on teaching students how to learn so they retain their love of learning. Children study great works of literature, the great discoveries of math and science, and the great ideas and figures of Western civilization, combined with a disciplined study of classical languages.

Habersham continues to accept applications for the 2013-14 school year where there are openings.  To learn more, please visit the website at www.thehabershamschool.org or call at 912-509-0540. You may also contact The Habersham School West for more details at 912-826-3327.
